Hi Louis,
Thank you for reading. A few things:
- I certainly do take into account that there are those who are those women who lied about being sexually assaulted, stories like Emmitt Till, Rosewood and others are known too well in my community. However, the stats show that way more women who are sexually assaulted simply do not report it than those who lie about it. In fact, 2 out of 3 sexual assaults go unreported while only 2% of rapes that are reported are determined as false. Meaning that if we use the data alone, there are vastly far more rapes and assaults out there unreported than those who do report and lie (please see the attached links).
- I want to jump down to your third comment. I believe that there are less white women willing to “destroy” white men due to one thing: the privilege that is associated with being white. There is stats included in my original piece that show that white women will vote against their own self interests as women time and time again to protect the privilege associated with being white. As for your assertion that “White women are more likely to have significant other men in their lives while black women are more likely to be single and not have a husband and father for their children.” it is based on a stereotypical view of Black women and the Black family. Facts are that 75 percent of black women marry before they turn age 35. Google; it helps us to not be racist.
- Back to your second point: “Why is everything a racial issue?” When you are a Black person (or any person of color) living in America, especially currently, EVERYTHING is a racial issue. You are constantly aware of the difference in perception that sees the youthful indiscretions of a Brett Kavanaugh as nothing to disqualify him from the highest seat in justice or a Brock Turner as just an innocent boy who had too much to drink. Meanwhile, a Stephon Clark (who dared to be standing in his own back yard) or a Trayvon Martin (who had the audacity to walk home from school with his hoodie up in the rain) or Tamir Rice (who had the nerve to be playing with a toy gun as a 12 year old kid) get treated like criminals and executed before anyone even considers their humanity. Ignoring race is something that only those with the privilege to ignore such things (i.e. White People) fuss about when brought to the table for discussion, like now.
- Here is a bonus: I don’t see men as unreliable. I, unlike whatever access tv program you have been watching to dare think you know about my culture or people, have had plenty of great male voices and influences on my life. I had a very active dad, step dad, numerous supportive male family members, several pastors, dozens of teachers, professors, and currently a bomb fiance that have all disproven whatever stereotypes about Black men you seem to have been exposed to and then some. My post is not based in the “unreliability” of men. It is based in that I simply do not need one to come and rescue me from a fight that I am strong enough to fight on my own. I am no damsel that needs a knight, I am a knight. I vote and decide the way my own conscious leads me, not to protect my own privilege and certainly not to protect my own men. Thanks for reading, appreciate the stats.
